It’s that time of year where the weather is still cold but you’re getting tired of that same old winter coat. So you’re thinking, should I look for winter sale coats or just move forward and shop for spring?
As you know, this is a great time to shop for winter sale coats and adding one to your closet right now can give your wardrobe the boost it needs to get through the next couple of months. (And you’ll have a new coat come fall). But, if it’s not as cold where you are, or you are just mentally “done” with winter, you’re still in the right place. We’ve put together a list of the best of both worlds!
The prices we’ve listed on our winter sale coats are the “highest” sale price – meaning that in some case there were additional coupon codes available, especially at Macy’s. So you may be able to find these even cheaper than the price we’ve listed. We also selected coats that still had a variety of sizes available.

Best Winter Sale Coats
Wool Blend Coats
For me (Dianne) this is the time of year that I like to shop for wool winter coats, especially in beautiful colors. As spring approaches, these coats give you a pop of color that you’ve been waiting for and they can also be perfect as Easter coats if it’s chilly that day.
This coat comes in four gorgeous colors. In addition to this unique orange color it is available in fuchsia, bright blue and red.
This plaid coat is a great transitional coat because of the light colors in the plaid. It’s also a great neutral and would be perfect over a brightly colored dress.
The sage green is a beautiful color. It’s perfect if you want something a unique, but not overly bright.
The ruffle detail on this coat is beautiful – and it’s under $100.
If we haven’t convinced you to try a colorful coat, then this coat from Mango might just be perfect for you. Classic styling and available in both camel and black.
Puffer and Down Coats
You probably already own a neutral color puffer coat, so we’re also going to recommend adding some color here too. I (Dianne) wrote a post all about “How to Wear Winter Pastels” so you know there will be some fun colors that I include here.
How can you go wrong trying some color when this coat from Target is under $50?? And it’s very close to the Color of the Year, Veri Peri. (You can read our post on how to wear the Color of the Year HERE.)
It also comes in mint, pink, fuchsia and off-white.
As we inch closer to spring, a shorter puffer coat is a great option. We also like this navy color. It’s a great neutral and if you’re getting tired of black, navy is a great alternative.
Now is also a great time to pick up a packable puffer coat, especially if you are traveling from someplace cold to someplace warm for spring break. I (Dianne) am planning on taking mine on our upcoming trip to Disney World.
This coat from Macy’s in-house brand, Charter Club, comes in 16 different colors and still has many sizes available (varies by color).
We recommended this wet look puffer jacket from Target in our most recent “How to Wear it at Any Age” post and it’s now on sale!
Best New Spring Jackets
Back in early fall, we did a post on upcoming spring trends after the spring shows for New York Fashion Week. On the top of that list was oversized trench coats. So, If you’re looking to add one new jacket for spring, that may be the one to consider. But we will give you lots more options.
Trench Coats
We love the “ice grey” color on this oversized trench coat from Mango. It also comes in a pretty sage green color too.
If you don’t want to invest too much into this new trend, then we found this oversized trench coat on sale at Forever 21 for just $37. It is also available in black and comes with a removable faux fur collor. (Note: For me, Dianne, I tend to size up when purchasing from Forever 21)
Here are a couple more classic trench coat designs, starting with this Tahari trench with leopard trim.
Of course we have to recommend a trench coat in a non-traditional color. But we love this “Mist” color from Cole Haan.
Bomber Jackets
Sometimes a basic black jacket is all you need.
Utility Jackets
Utility jackets can really be anything. From rain coats to anoraks to even this quilted shacket that we featured in our “Wear it at Any Age” recent post.
A classic utility jacket in olive green.
A pure white jacket is always nice to have from early spring through summer.
Blazers
Blazers can be a chic alternative to a jacket and they can be worn almost all year long. Starting with this faux leather one from the Gabrielle Union Collection at NY & Co.
We’re not big camo fans, but we know you are out there – this one’s for you!
If you’re looking for more jacket inspiration, then you should check out our post on The Shacket: The Best Looks and How to Style”. They are not sale coats, but they are fun!
