The Shacket: The Best Looks and How to Style

Last updated on December 11th, 2023 at 05:09 pm

UPDATED DEC 2023! The Shacket.  It’s a funny word, but it’s the perfect blend of what it is – it’s a shirt jacket. So, it’s a little bit shirt, a little bit jacket.  And it’s one of the hottest fashion trends right now. What we love about the shacket is that it is something that you can wear in both spring and fall.  Plaid shackets are a perfect fall look, but you can also wear a nice solid color in the spring

We originally published this post at the end of March 2021 with transitional looks from winter to spring, but since then the trend has gotten even more popular! So we are updated it in January 2022 and now we are updating it a third time, almost a year later, because the shacket trend is not slowing down anytime soon! So, all these links are new as of December 2023.

The Shacket: How Many Styles Are There?

Seriously, when we wrote this post the first time, most of the shackets you saw were a plaid, mid-thigh length in a wool-like fabric. Since then, solid colors have become popular as well as cropped shackets and long shackets. You also see lots of different fabrics such as faux leather and suede, sherpa, twill and so much more.

So, we’ve grouped together all different styles of the shacket for you to pick the style that suits you best.

The Classic Shacket

These are the “original” shackets that we styled a couple of years ago. As you can see, we both still have them and wear them. Here are some more classic shackets, including the ones we are both wearing:

And just for fun, here is our original styling from two years ago. It still works too!

The Classic in Solid

Maybe you’re not a plaid person but you like the look of a shacket. Why not try a solid version. We like the solid version because we think you can dress them up or dress them down.

I (Dianne) have had this lavender shacket for a couple of years also. As you can see, I can wear it with a collared shirt and heeled booties and it can be a perfect office look. But I could just as easily swap those out for a sweater and sneakers and it would look just as good!

Women wearing shackets

Here are some lavender and pink shackets like ours, followed by some additional solids in this classic style. We’ve tried to include almost every color shade you can think of!

Here is another solid look for the shacket. I just bought this one from a local online boutique, Mae Designs XO, which is a mother/daughter business (which we love). This shacket is a great quality and is only $44. Check it out at maedesignsxo.com

The Shacket: Faux Leather and Suede

If you like a solid shacket, but want to try a different fabric, why not give faux leather and suede a shot? Both of these have an elevated look, another good look for the office or for an evening out.

The Long (and Short) of It

This is a look that we are liking more and more. And even though the word “cropped” might scare you, these really aren’t that short and it’s ok if your shirt hangs down a little below the shacket.

What we found is that a lot of cropped shackets are found in the juniors department. Don’t let that scare you away either. Anyone can wear a cropped shacket. Because they are a bit boxy, you should be able to wear your usual size. I found the one I am wearing below in the juniors department and am wearing my usual size. This is a chic and cute look in a shacket.

I got this shacket at my local Von Maur store, but I did find it online at nanamacs.com

More cropped shackets in plaid and solid:

If you want to wear a shacket as more of a coat, then you may like these longer shackets. They are an oversized look, so they can be fun to wear with bulky sweaters and maybe some combat boots.

The Cozy Shacket

We are both huge fans of a cozy winter white look and the shacket is a great way to get that look. So to finish it off, we found a selection of winter white shackets that will give a cozy feel all through winter.

Great input on fashion trends this year. It’s hard to update our wardrobes when we’re not out and about to see who’s wearing what!

That’s for sure! It’s really hard to know – you can read all about it, but it’s so much better when you can see things in person!
