The Best Face Sunscreen for You

Wearing sunscreen every day is so important, but it’s different from the aerosol spray cans you might be thinking about (that definitely have a purpose!). Even at home, using your phone, working on a computer, or sitting by a window, your skin is still exposed to harmful rays. While there might not be one best face sunscreen, there’s still one that’s best for you!

There’s multiple types of rays you need to protect your skin from. UVA rays contribute to aging and UVB rays that cause your skin to burn. Make sure the sunscreen you choose is broad spectrum with UVA and UVB protection. Plus, make sure it’s at least SPF 30 or above.

Mineral sunscreens can leave a whitecast (sit on top of the skin), and chemical sunscreens sink in and are more clear. So the type of sunscreen you use can change depending on your needs for that day – wearing makeup, no makeup day, or going to the beach!

So when do you put on your sunscreen? Apply after you do your skincare routine in the morning, and let everything sink in for a bit. Then go ahead and do your makeup!

If you don’t know what your skin type is, check out this post first, and then come back!

Best Face Sunscreen for Dry Skin

Let’s start with a hydrating formula designed for long days outside when you need extra protection, but light enough to use every day! Plus, it isn’t sticky or greasy!

A hydrating water-gel formula to keep your skin soft and protected all day. Plus, doesn’t leave a greasy residue!

Oily Skin Sunscreens

This sunscreen is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Plus, it’s moisturizing and has lactic acid to refine your pores and prevent acne.

Sensitive Skin

Contains green tea extract to calm irritation and caffeine to reduce puffiness. Great for sensitive or normal skin!

La Roche-Posay products have been recommended to me (Dianne) from my dermatologist. This is a new formula for their face sunscreen designed for anti-aging. This formula should also work well for sensitive skin.

Any Skin Type

Works for all skin types, and can be used as a primer under your makeup!

Great to use throughout the day, in addition to using another formula while doing your skincare. This mist won’t mess up your makeup and will provide additional sun protection!

Use this serum formula to help even out your skin tone, and provide hydration, while also protecting it from the sun!

Tinted

A tinted formula with skin protection in one! For days you want a little bit of coverage, but don’t feel like wearing a full face of makeup!

Sunscreen and foundation in one! Gives great coverage with a beautiful finish, and protects your skin at the same time!

Sunscreen…for your hair?

When you’re out in the sun, don’t forget your scalp and part can get burnt too! You can use a regular sunscreen, but there are formulas just for your scalp that work great!

Handscreen

Have you thought about your hands while you’re driving in the car, or out in the sun? Your hands are a place that will definitely show signs of aging, even if your face doesn’t! This hydrating formula will protect your hands when you’re out and about, or even while getting a gel manicure!

This Neutrogrena Ultra Sheer was also recommended by a dermatologist who recommended it not just for protection but also for repair of sun/dark spots.

The Best Face Sunscreen for Jen:

Under Makeup: I love the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen – the formula is great if I want to wear it under makeup, or don’t feel like wearing makeup at all!

As Makeup: I’m a huge fan of the IT Cosmetics CC+ cream! It’s enough coverage for me to use as a foundation, and I love how my skin looks while I’m wearing it!

The Best Face Sunscreen for Dianne:

Under Makeup: I use both a moisturizer and foundation with sunscreen. My skin is very sensitive so if I am going to be inside most of the day or want a polished look, then that’s what I use. But it’s an entirely different story when I know I will be outside.

As Makeup: Jen and I agree on the IT Cosmetics CC+ cream. I had heard a lot about it and decided to try it just recently. Why did I wait so long! I love that it has a lot of coverage and really even outs my skin tone. I can see me using it a lot this summer for outdoor events.

As “Just Sunscreen”: Just about every day in the summer, I get up early to walk my dog, Bandit. At 7:00 in the morning it’s easy to say “Oh, I don’t need sunscreen”, but I still put it on everyday. I really like the Neutrogena Hydro Boost face sunscreen. It goes on smoothly, and, as it sounds, it makes my skin feel hydrated.

I also use the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer on my hands, especially in the car. Those are the hidden places that you don’t think about getting the sun’s rays, but you definitely can!

And Finally…

And finally, keep in mind that the risk of sunburn is still very high in the winter. This is an all-year-round routine.

According to an article in Health magazine, according to the Mayo Clinic, ultraviolet light from the sun is intensified when it reflects off the snow (the threat of ski google tan is real!). Even if there is no fresh snow on the ground, the sun can still harm you on cold, gray days.

The American Academy of Dermatology indicates that up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate the skin even on cloudy days, leaving unprotected skin vulnerable. Keep up the sunscreen routine!
