Beauty At Any Age Volume 13: How to Wear Glitter Eyeshadow

‘Tis the season for glitter eyeshadow! It may sound intimidating (at any age) but if applied correctly, it can be a great look for anyone! You have to be a little more patient and do a little more blending to give it a festive but subtle look.

Here’s the palette we both purchased and scroll down to see how each of us used it for our glitter eyeshadow look! And it’s only $7.99, so it’s a great price to try something new!

How to Wear Glitter Eyeshadow: Jen’s Process

The colors in this glitter eyeshadow palette can be a little intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! There’s so many ways to wear the colors in this palette that aren’t as bold and in your face.

A warning ahead of time, the palette does call out a couple shades as “not intended for the eye area”, but don’t worry! The product contains a color additive that the FDA says shouldn’t be used around the eyes.

In the case of the matte pink shades, this is because it could possibly stain your skin. Make sure you’re using a concealer or eyeshadow primer, so you’re not putting the color directly on clean skin.

For the pressed glitter shade, be aware of the potential fallout and getting it in your eyes. There are specific glitter “glue” products that will hold glitter shadows in place with less fallout.

Look 1

palette

This look is more “neutral” but still stands out!

  1. Apply the #1 shade all over your lid and blend through the crease with a big fluffy brush

  2. Using a smaller brush, pick up a little bit of shades #2 and #3 and start applying in the crease. Gradually add more until you’re happy with the amount of color you have. Go back to your fluffy brush for even more blending.

  3. Add a little bit more shadow to the outer corner of your lid, and blend some more.

  4. Pick up shade #4 – on your finger for more color payoff, or with a brush for more of a wash of shimmer. Place on your lid starting in the middle, and work toward the inner corner.

  5. Add the #5 shade as a highlight in the inner corner of your eye using a small shadow brush.

Finish with your choice of eyeliner and mascara!

Look 2

Go bolder with pink! The technique is similar to Look 1, but with different shades!

  1. Apply the #1 light purple shade all over your lid and through the crease.

  2. Start with a tiny bit of #2 on a small blending brush and place in your crease and blend

  3. Gradually add a little bit of #3 and keep blending until you like the amount of color

  4. Place a little bit of #4 in the outer corner of your lid and blend just a little toward the crease. Continue to blend, blend, blend!

  5. Put a little bit of #5 on the inner corner of your eye as a highlight, or all over the lid if you don’t want a mostly matte eyeshadow look!

If you want to go for a full-matching look, use a tiny tiny tiny bit of the eyeshadow as a blush!

How to Wear Glitter Eyeshadow – Dianne’s Process

When we first talked about trying glitter eyeshadow for the holidays, Jen had already purchased this palette. I wasn’t sure about some of the colors, but there were several that I loved. So I wanted to give it a try.

I decided to go “all in” and create a glitter eyeshadow look that I would wear at the holidays. Especially with the top I picked out. I love brown/rust shades in both clothes and makeup. So I decided to use more of those colors in the palette to go with my top.

Here’s how I got my look:

Wet n Wild eyeshadow

For this palette, I did use a combination of a fluffy brush and disposable sponge applicators. I find that with glitter/shimmery shadows, the colors seems to adhere to the sponge applicator better and there is less that falls off the brush and on to my face!

  1. I applied #1 all over my lid as what I like to call a “brightening” base layer using the sponge applicator

  2. Using the sponge applicator again, I then placed #2 on top on #1 so they would blend and not be too “orange-y”

  3. Next I placed #3 in the (again with the sponge) in the crease

  4. And then #4 in the outer edge of my lid and outer part of the crease (sponge again)

  5. I then used a fluffy brush to blend all the colors together

  6. I used my pinky to place just a smidgen of #5 in the center of my lid and used the fluffy brush again to blend one more time.

  7. Finally, since this was a glitter look, I used my pinky again to place a little bit on my brow bone and then blended again with a brush. Normally I don’t put anything on my brow bone but I thought it would fit with the overall look.

I used brown eyeliner, black mascara and a brown/neutral lipstick to finish off the look.
