How to Wear Winter Pastels: On Your Body & Face

If you’re used to wearing a lot of black in winter, then let us suggest something different: winter pastels. And not just in clothes. Another great way to bring winter pastels into your style is through makeup. We’re sharing how to do both. Dianne is taking on the clothes and Jen is taking on the makeup!

Winter Pastels: On Your Body

What I love about wearing winter pastels is not just that they are different, but that they are cheerful. Wearing a pink sweater in winter honestly will give my mood a lift, especially on a cold, gray day (and we have a lot of those here in Michigan in the winter).

There are lots of ways to incorporate winter pastels into your wardrobe. Let’s take a look.

Tops

Probably the easiest way to add some winter pastels without spending a lot is through a top. Here are a couple of looks that I personally own and I’ll share some dupes as well.

If you’ve been following us for a while, then you know that purple/lavender is my favorite color. My exact sweater is being sold new on Mercari in a size Large for $50. I bought mine at Marshall’s and I did spend less than that. It does come with a matching beanie that I love!

You can purchase my exact cream ribbed leggings that I got at H & M for $17.99 HERE.

If you love purple also, make sure to check out our post on the color of the year, Veri Peri. It’s a beautiful periwinkle blue/purple. You can read the post HERE.

Pink is another one of the great winter pastels. Think of pink frosted Christmas ornaments and wrapping paper. It’s just so pretty. Here is a great casual pink hoodie sweater that I got from LOFT that is still available.

Bottoms

Pastels don’t have to worn only on top, you can easily wear them on the bottom as well. I paired this light blue pencil skirt with a fuzzy white sweater and even added a shearling handbag to give it a more wintery look.

This pencil skirt is amazing – it’s from Tahari and it’s a pull on skirt so it fits great and is comfortable. I purchased it at Nordstrom Rack. The blue is no longer available but they do still have it in classic black and a few sizes left in Blush. At $19.97, it’s a steal! You can shop it HERE.

My boots are still available from vincecamuto.com.

You can also do pastels in pants as well. We talked about these pants in our “Color of the Year” post and I think they are worth repeating!

Outerwear

If you’re a watcher of Hallmark Christmas movies, then you know that they always seem to find the prettiest coats in the prettiest colors. I think this one gives them a run for their money – and it was a gift that my husband Jeff picked out for me. There are only a couple of sizes left, but if one of them happens to be yours, you can find the link HERE.

It’s also perfectly fine to pair your pastels with black, it’s a nice contrast.

Here is another pastel blue coat option:

What I like about this sage green faux-suede jacket is that I can wear as a coat or almost a blazer and build an outfit around it. This was another in-store Marshall’s find, so it’s hard to find links for those items.

But I do love this mint moto jacket shown below because you can wear it the same way – as a jacket or as a key outfit piece.

Yet another Marshall’s find. Can you tell that I love to shop there? I am a “digger” — I do love to go through every rack looking for great finds. The fleece from Target below I think is just as great!

Pastels: On Your Face

The easiest way to incorporate winter pastels into your makeup, and the most flattering on everyone, is with eyeshadow.

You can go bold with your eyeshadow, or you can do something a little more simple. Try packing a shadow all-over the lid, a pastel shimmer shade, or even just a simple liner.

If you want to try a pastel lipstick, keep the rest of your makeup simple – neutral eyeshadow, liner, and a pop of color on your lips!
