Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day are great and fun opportunities to try totally different makeup looks.
Valentine’s Day
Going out on a date? Time to feel sexy and confident! Think smoky eyes and long lashes to bat across the table.
Doesn’t have to be a full-on smokey eye where your whole lid is basically black, and it doesn’t even have to be blacks and grays. You could do a neutral smokey eye, or even incorporate a little bit of color!
Depending on your situation, and what you’re going to be doing later (wink!), I would steer clear of bright colored lipsticks, and even liquid lipsticks.
Red and pink definitely embody the feel of Valentine’s Day, but bright colored lipstick is going to get everywhere. When you’re at dinner, the last thing you want is lipstick ending up on your chin!
Try a neutral lipstick, with a little bit of gloss on top, or just a gloss! Your partner won’t be able to take their eyes off your shiny lips!
Smokey Eyes
We did a smokey eye Beauty At Any Age, so check that out for some of our ideas and tips! But here are some easy to use palettes to create a smokey look!
Plus, here’s an even easier smokey eye look to try out!
Glossy Lips
There’s lots of options when it comes to lip gloss, and you can even have different colors if you’re set on incorporating pink or red!
If you want a little bit more to your lips, you could try using a lip liner all over your lips in any color you like, with gloss on top. This will give you color with lasting power, and still glossy.
Lashes
Make your eyes pop with some false lashes! Your eyes will look huge, and add a little extra oomph to your overall look.
You don’t need super huge lashes, little ones will still make a big impact!
Jen’s Look
Using an eyeshadow palette with a lot of brown shades, I built up my smokey eye like I did in our Beauty At Any Age post! Using progressively smaller brushes as the shades get darker. I keep the eyeliner to a minimum, just using a flat top brush and a dark shade of eyeshadow. Plus, I used a little big bigger and fluffier eyelashes than I usually use.
I kept the bronzer to a minimum, although I did do some contouring, and a light color blush. And I finished it off with a lip gloss, for shiny, kiss-proof lips for Valentine’s Day!
Dianne’s Look
I decided to go with a smokey eye, but different from the look I created in our Beauty At Any Age post that Jen referred to above. I went with the classic gray toned smokey eye. I was a little hesitant at first because I wasn’t sure how that would look with my coloring, but I ended up loving it.
Because of the gray tones, I did stick with “silver/blue tones” in the the rest of my makeup and even my jewelry. I designed my makeup around the blouse I wore in our Valentine’s and Galentine’s Day Outfits post to finish off the look.
All the makeup I have in the carousel is exactly what I am wearing with the exception of my lipstick. Mine was no longer available, but I picked something another light plum color that I thought was pretty close. I went with a matte lip because I wanted all the attention on my eyes.
I went with natural false eyelashes, but I think if I did it again, I would go a little more glam!
Galentine’s Day
Galentine’s Day with all your girlfriends is a great time to have a lot of fun with your makeup. Think bright pinks, red, and GLITTER!
There’s no risk of embarrassment if your makeup gets smudged, or if you go overboard, because Galentine’s Day is all about having fun!
Pink and Purple Makeup
Think pink or purple eyeshadow, or even both together! Big, bold eyeshadow looks, and bright pink cheeks!
Cover your lid in a light or medium pink shade, and add some purple to the outer edge and a little bit into the crease. And smoke out your lower lash line with either purple or pink!
Sparkles/Glitter
To go along with the pink and purple eyeshadow, what about a little sparkle or some glitter? Pat a little bit of a sparkly shadow on top of your eyeshadow, or use a glitter glue if you plan on using a loose glitter.
Add a little shimmer or glitter at the top of your cheekbones for some extra shine.
Bright Lips
Time to be bold with your lips! Normally, I wouldn’t recommend bright eyes AND lips, but Galentine’s is a special occasion!
Either a liquid lipstick or regular bullet lipstick is great, but a liquid lipstick will have more lasting power.
Jen’s Look
I made this look bright and colorful, so it’s a lot of fun for hanging out with your girlfriends. I used a couple pink eyeshadows to do a modified smokey eye, and topped my lid with a shimmery pink. Any shimmery or glittery shade will work great!
Plus, I used a bright pink blush (that doesn’t show up as well in photos), and topped it off with a really fun purple lipstick. I don’t have many opportunities to wear purple lipstick, so I jumped at the chance!
Dianne’s Look
Since lavender is my favorite color, I decided to go the purple route and go with an all-lavender look. Like Jen said, I am not sure I would do this every day, but Galentine’s Day is special, so what the heck!
At first I thought the lavender lipstick would be too bright, but now I am not sure if it bright enough. I do like the monochromatic look, but I might go with a brighter lipstick next time. But maybe not! You tell me – what do you think?
My lipstick shade was sold out, so I did add a brighter plum color in the same lipstick – Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick. My shade was aptly called, “Muted Lavender”.
