The Best Face and Eye Makeup for Glasses Wearers

Last updated on August 14th, 2023 at 08:24 pm

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in elementary school, and started wearing contacts when I was seventeen. I’ve also been wearing makeup since I was in sixth grade. Albeit, not always well. So I have some experience in eye makeup for glasses wearers.

Glasses are more popular than ever, so how do you wear glasses and have fabulous makeup too?

For me, my eyes are absolutely terrible, so I wouldn’t be able to see a single thing while putting on my makeup. I also don’t wear my glasses out that often because it makes me a little off-kilter.

Face and eye makeup for glasses wearers:

These are my real-deal glasses, but I did my makeup with my contacts in. My makeup would never turn out looking like this otherwise!

Here are my tips for applying makeup for glasses wearers. I’m also listing my product recommendations below.

  • Balance your liner with your frame thickness
    • Do you have thick frames? Go for a thicker liner. Thin, wire frames? Keep your liner on the smaller side
    • Rock a liquid liner and a cat eye, or use a pencil for a more subtle look

  • Curl your lashes and be careful with the mascara
    • Focus on volumizing mascara, instead of lengthening formulas
    • You want your lashes to be full and curl up, instead of bumping into your lenses all the time!

  • No long fake lashes
    • If you want to wear false lashes, look for pairs that offer more volume than length

  • Make sure your brows frame your face
    • While your glasses are literally framing your face, so do your brows!
    • Follow my brow shaping tips here, so your brows complement and enhance your face

  • Bold lips
    • Drawing attention to your lips with a beautiful, bold lipstick is an awesome way to enhance your features
    • I like liquid lipstick formulas for bright colors, so it doesn’t end up all over my face!

  • Powder your nose
    • Make sure you’re setting your foundation and concealer with powder, so your makeup doesn’t all rub off on your nose
    • You can also put a little powder on the nose pads of your glasses too
    • There were plenty of times where I’d take off my glasses and there was makeup all over the nose pads

  • Don’t go too dark, because glasses will make the area look darker
    • Glasses will already make your eye area look a little darker, so avoid wearing too much and too dark eyeshadow
    • You can still rock a smoky eye, just try to avoid a lot of black!

Face and eye makeup for glasses wearers:

A lot of these steps will also depend on how much you can see without your glasses on!

Taking this photo was very reminiscent of school picture day when I was younger, trying to avoid the glare from my glasses!
  1. Prep and prime your face so you have a great base for your makeup

  2. For everyday, stick with a lightweight foundation, BB or CC cream. You could even use face pencils or concealer to even out your skin. Avoid anything that’s going to end up looking heavy and cakey

  3. If you’re not familiar with baking that’s ok, we’re going to try an abridged version to keep your makeup locked into place
    1. Lightly powder all over your face like you normally do to set your makeup
    2. Using a denser brush, or a makeup sponge, dip into the powder so you have a decent amount of product
    3. Gently pack the powder on the bridge of your nose, the sides of your nose, and anywhere else on your face your glasses will touch on a regular basis
    4. Let this powder sit for a minute or two, and then gently brush it off
    5. Dust a little powder on the nose pads of your glasses too!

  4. Fill in your brows with a powder, pencil or gel product you like best

  5. During the day, use a couple different neutral shadows all over your lid, and maybe a little sparkle
    1. Not using any shadow on your lower lash line will open up your eyes more, and make them look bigger

  6. Balance the amount of liner you use with the thickness of your glasses rims!

  7. Use blush sparingly so it doesn’t overpower your face

  8.  Curl your lashes and use a thickening mascara

  9. Finish off with a fun lip color to bring the whole fabulous look together!
