Winter Skin Care Tips

Hands and Feet

Both of these items from Kitsch are awesome for keeping your hands and heels hydrated. They’re lined with an insulated gel that helps lotion soak into your skin, instead of into the gloves and socks.

You can squirt a little lotion into the hand gloves (like my personal favorite, Soap & Glory Hand Food, $8), and put them on for 20-30 minutes for ultimate hydration. You could even wear them to bed at night if you want to wake up with super soft hands.

What I love about these gloves too, is the thumb and pointer finger have touch screen fingertips, so you can still scroll on your phone.

With the spa socks, I put Soap & Glory Heel Genius ($10) on my heels, and slip on the socks. These I definitely wear to bed at night, and wake up with super soft heels!

e.l.f. Cosmetics Holy Hydration! Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm

I thought this makeup removing balm looked interesting, so I decided to give it a shot. I thought for $10 it was pretty low risk and ended up loving it! The first time I used it to take off makeup, I was shocked at how soft my skin was. After using this, make sure you follow up with your regular cleanser to make sure all your makeup is off.

Moisturizing Hand Soap

Since everyone is washing their hands constantly, why not switch to a moisturizing hand soap like Softsoap Moisturizing Liquid Hand Soap, for just $.99! Washing our hands is so necessary, but can be brutal on your hands in the winter.

Another highly rated liquid soap is Jergen’s Moisturizing Hand Soap. You really can’t go wrong with either one.

Dry Body Brush

This might seem counter intuitive, but when your skin gets dry in the winter, you need to exfoliate to get rid of all the dry skin.

This is where dry brushing comes in! Using a dry brush (like this EcoTools Dry Body Brush for $4.99), start from your ankles and work your way up toward your heart in small circles.

For lymphatic drainage, always work upwards toward your heart. Except for your back, where you work down toward your butt.

You’ll get into the shower already feeling like you have super soft skin!

Shower Lotion

Personally, getting out of the shower and putting on lotion when it’s cold outside can be such a pain. So, take care of this step while you’re still in the shower with the Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion ($5.49).

Before you get out of the shower, slather this all over your body, and quickly rinse it off.

Your skin will be super soft right out of the shower, and if you want to be super moisturized, put your favorite body lotion on while your skin is still a little damp.

Another option for In-Shower Moisturizing is Dove’s Gentle Exfoliating Nourishing Body Wash. What makes this a little bit different are the exfoliating beads – you can feel it both exfoliating and moisturizing at the same time. Helps you get rid of those dry winter skin flakes!

Overall Lotion

Neutrogena has knocked it out of the part with their Hydro Boost line. We are loving the basic body moisturizer. It work great and fast. If my (Dianne) skin is really dry, I will use the Dove Exfoliating Body Wash (above) in the shower and then add an extra layer of lotion, with Hydro Boost being my go-to lotion.

Lips

I (Dianne) found a new product (new to me anyway, it’s been around a while) and it’s called Lanolips by the Australian company, Lanolips. I’ve mentioned this quite a few times before, but I frequently find products on Good Morning America’s Deals & Steals with Tory Johnson that I try for 50% off. This was one of them, and I am so glad I tried it.

These products contain lanolin, which is moisturizing oil naturally occurring in sheep’s wool.  It is humanely (and cruelty-free) sourced from Australian sheep farmers. What I love about this product is that it is not sticky at all. While I do like Vaseline for some things, things can stick to it. Not with this product. I’ve been wearing it under my mask to keep my lips moist and it’s been great.

It also comes in a tinted version which I think I will try to add a little bit of color.

I also purchased their “Golden Dry Skin Miracle Salve” which is for anywhere on your body! I’ve been using it on my elbows and hangnails. It also works great.
