Men’s Spring Fashion. It’s harder to write about than I would have thought. I think because when I look at the extremes at New York Fashion Week, it’s easier for me to visualize what that means in women’s fashion. For example – when I see crazy cut-out dresses, I know how to find looks that turn that in an outfit than most women would feel comfortable wearing.
So, I am a little out of my comfort zone, but up for the challenge. So here goes – the top men’s spring fashion I found for 2022. Keep in mind that these looks aren’t just for your husband – a lot of these looks can be for teens and young adults too!
One last thing – you might be wondering why we are doing a post about men’s fashions. There’s actually a couple of reasons. A few months back when we published our New & Returning Trends for Spring 2022 guide for women, we did a poll on Instagram asking if you would be interested in a twice-a-year men’s trend report and the answer was a resounding YES!
Then, just a few weeks ago, we were guests on the Deaf Dialogue Podcast, and the hosts, Dave and Wes asked us about what’s in style for me this season. So we thought it was time! You can listen to our episode on the Deaf Dialogue podcast below.

Men’s Spring Fashion: Sweater/Knit Polos
The most consistent item I found throughout my research was the sweater/knit polo. Every article I read and websites that I visited (that I consider being “on trend”) showed them. In many cases, these polos were also “full placket”, meaning they have buttons al the way down the front. If this is not something you can see the guy in your life wearing, a traditional polo can work just fine also.
Shop the Look:
Cardigans
Always a classic, they are not your grandpa’s cardigan anymore. Cardigans for men these days have a lot more style and they are practical as well. They are perfect for cool summer evenings when he wants a little more style than a jacket.
Shop the Look:
Varsity Jackets
Several of the varsity jackets that I’ve seen this season have been considered gender neutral. Case in point in this varsity jacket on the Target website. It comes in generic adult sizing. But mostly I have seen them for men and young adults.
For men, they have more a bomber look with a few varsity stripes. For the younger men, they more closely represent the classic varsity jacket.
Shop the Look:
Rugby Shirts
Keeping with the varsity/preppy look, rugby shirts are making a comeback. It’s almost the varsity and polo look rolled into one.
Shop the Look:
Shorts
Shorts are still pretty basic and classic – flat front, longer length. Except that there is a new length in town and it’s a little bit shorter, reminiscent of the men’s shorts of the 1970’s. The new length is a 5″-6″ inseam.
I can’t speak to how comfortable they would be, but we’re including them since we found them on several sites. The first two shorts below are the shorter length; the third are the classic 9″ inseam from Old Navy.
Shop the Look:
Casual, Comfortable Pants
I feel like this look has been around for a while and I think it’s great that it’s here to stay. It’s a nice casual and comfortable look that’s a great alternative to jeans.
Shop the Look:
Trench Coats
We’ve talked about trench coats being on trend for women this season, and the same goes for men. The biggest difference is for men, classic colors in style. For women, trench coats in all different colors are what’s trending.
This is a great classic look that’s easy to invest in. As with women’s fashion, trench coats seem to ebb and flow in popularity, but they are never really out of style.
Shop the Look:
Sweater Vests
Another classic look updated to be a little more casual. You can keep it casual or add a pattern, like this argyle to make it a little more preppy.
Shop the Look:
Denim Shirts
Another item that’s really never out of style, it’s just sometimes more in than out. We’re seeing a lot of denim shirts paired with the casual comfortable pants shown above, especially in black and khaki.
Shop the Look:
Cropped Lightweight Jacket
This look reminds me a little of the varsity jacket. A lot of these styles are the same bomber look, just a little simplified.
Shop the Look:
Suede Outerwear
You may not think of suede for spring, but we’ve seen a lot of it. In fact, in our most recent “How to Wear it at Any Age” we styled two different faux suede dresses for spring. This is a look that looks good on almost all guys!
Shop the Look:
Easy Suiting
This one is a little hard to write about since so many of these pieces are sold as separates. It’s great in that it’s easier to find a fit that way, but it can be hard to find the match. I tried where I could, but the important thing is to get an idea of the look.
Shop the Look:
One thing I would recommend is the “Mix & Match Suiting” on the Express website. Here are just a couple of examples of how they put the pieces together for you and made it very easy to put together a great, coordinated look.
Jeans
This is a category where you can really where what you want. What’s trending right now for men are baggy jeans and flares. We’re showing three of our favorite classic Levi’s, in three different styles.
Shop the Look:
Color Trends
We found two main color trends for men’s spring fashion: pink and green. We’ve shown some green already, but here are a few other options.
And here are some picks in pink!
As with women’s spring fashion, bright colors are also in for men. So if you see something in a bright color, go ahead and pick it up!
Men’s Spring Fashion: Shoe Trends
I saw four main shoe trends for spring, with the two most prevalent being the white sneaker and the loafer.
The Doc Marten Oxfords are another great choice, as they in between a casual sneaker and a loafer.
Then, of course are the Birkenstocks. I saw these clogs pop up on men’s spring fashion trend articles multiple times.
Keep it Going: Men’s Style Influencer to Follow
If you want o stay on top of men’s fashion, one Influencer I recommend following is Parker York Smith. I find that his style and recommendations are those that most men can relate to.
He has a lot of quick “how-to” videos on his Instagram and TikTok and some great longer YouTube videos. He’s a brand new dad too, so there’s some additional fun content to watch.
You can find his Instagram at: @parkeryorksmith and his YouTube channel at: Parker York Smith
