New Series! We’re going to be looking at the best “Over 50 Style” and I (Dianne) am going to take the lead (makes sense since I am the one over 50!).

Over 50 Style The Harper Girls

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while but wasn’t entirely sure what you might be interested in learning more about. I have some ideas of my own — topics that I know I am interested in but it really doesn’t matter if they aren’t the same topics you want to hear about.

So, I thought, why not ask the people who matter! I put together a quick 10 question survey which should, literally, take you 2 minutes to complete. This questionnaire will help me to understand where you are: how stylish you feel, where you currently and shop and you also get to vote on which topics you want to see me cover.

I’d love it if you would take the survey. You can get to it by clicking the link below. Then come back and read about my personal “Over 50” style philosophy.

Over 50 Style: My Personal Philosophy

over 50 style

The goal of this new series to take all of us 50+ from feeling unsure about what what to wear to a place of confidence and making dressing fun again. We can still be fashionable at 50 or “at any age”.

Speaking of which, this series will not be replacing our “How to Wear it at Any Age” series. That series is on a short hiatus right now due to Jen’s pregnancy but it will return later this summer!

For my personal philosophy, I truly believe that you can wear anything at any age. I don’t believe in “age appropriate”, I think that you dress for your own personal style.

What I love about shopping and dressing at this age is that I have a pretty good idea of what looks good on me. I can walk by something and instantly say “yes” or “no” without even trying it on.

That said, I do like to challenge myself sometimes. I will pick something that is either out of my comfort zone or just not something I think I would like and try it on. A perfect example is the tan/black skirt above. I almost talked myself out of buying it. I immediately went to “I don’t usually wear things like that” to “why not”? (It was only $35 so it wasn’t a big risk). I am so glad I gave it a try – I absolutely love it.

Are there things that I won’t wear? Absolutely! But the reasons are more tied to my style and how I feel about certain things. For example, would I wear a cut-out dress? I feel like I could but I am not entirely happy with flat my stomach is right now. I’m sure I would feel the same way if I was 30 haha!

I do like to try new trends but I will usually pair them with something more traditional and keep my outfits limited to one trend at a time. If there’s a trend I like but don’t want to go “all in”, I might add it in an accessory. Spoiler alert: for this week’s “Fashion Tip Friday” I am going to talk about the fringe trend. That’s one that I adding to my wardrobe in the way of earrings and I’ll share with you what I’ve found.

I’d Love Your Feedback

So, that’s just the start of me sharing my over 50 style philosophy with you. I’d love to hear yours – please take the survey or let me know in the comments. I am excited to continue on this journey with you!

One last thing. If you’re not sure of your personal style, you should take our Style Quiz. This will help you identify the styles you like. And I do mean styles, plural. None of us are just one style!
