Beauty At Any Age Volume 16: How To Shop Sephora Lipstick

Sephora lipstick. During this most recent Sephora sale, we decided to give the “house brand” a try. Especially since during the sale Sephora lipstick (and all their branded products) are 20% off. So it was a perfect time to give it a try.

How did Sephora lipstick hold up to other brands? Keep reading!

I’ll admit, I hadn’t thought much about the Sephora Collection while shopping for makeup. But I started hearing more and more about how they have some good products. So during the Sephora sale, we thought let’s give some Sephora Collection lip products a try!

Lately, I’ve been into glossier lips, so I thought the About That Shine Lacquer Shine Lipstick looked really pretty. I got the color Magnetic Wave because it looked like a “my lips but better” shade.

I’m also a sucker for lip liners, and the Retractable Rouge Gel Lip Liner looks really nice too! I got both The Nudest and Rose Wine shades.

Both shades are great for a natural lip look. The Nudest blends with my lip color really naturally. And Rose Wine gives my lips just a hint of a rosy pink shade.

The lipstick goes on super smoothly, feels great and lasts! I wanted shine without shimmer, so this is great. Some of the Sheer Shine lipsticks look like they have shimmer in them, so if you like lipsticks with a little oomph, those are a great option!

When I try a new lipstick formula, I usually go for a nude so I can assess how much I like it. I don’t look good in peachy shades, so I want to see if she shade changes to be more peachy throughout the day. Or ends up looking peachier than it did in the swatches online.

This lipstick passed the test, and I would definitely try out other shades in this line. Especially if I want a bright lip for the summer!

So, I actually went to the store to pick out my products. When I have the time, I prefer to try on the shades in store. Especially since I knew I wanted to try some brights for summer.

I worked with an amazing salesperson who informed me on all the different Sephora lipstick products. In the photo above, I am using the Satin Hydrating Lipstick in “More is More”. I prefer a satin lipstick as opposed to a matte. I find that they are a little more forgiving as we get older. A light sheen on your lips helps to minimize some of those “lip lines.

In the photo on the left, I am wearing just the lipstick. On the right, I added a layer of gloss on top. But not just any gloss. Rebecca, my salesperson, convinced me to try a gold colored gloss on top of it and thought “why not”? I really like how it looks but I would probably save it for an evening look. I did take a close up of it that you can see below. I’m glad that I didn’t just go with the safe clear gloss.

I tried several other products as well. Like Jen, I also tried the Retractable Rouge Gel Lip Liner in Rum Raisin. I thought it went on very smooth and stayed on. I wore it with another Sephora lipstick, their Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick. Very Vintage and Rosewood were the two shades I purchased. They were more mauvy-neutrals and had great pigmentation.

My only comment is that I didn’t feel like it lasted all day long compared to other lip stains I’ve tried. I brought it with me on vacation because I didn’t want to worry about re-applying. It didn’t transfer, but I did feel it needed a touch up after eating.
