Goal Planning 2022: The Best “Gear”

Goal Planning 2022. Can you believe it’s right around the corner? We can’t either!

In our recent post, “Setting Your Personal Goals for the Year” we talked about our individual goal setting processes, from vision boards to actual goal planning worksheets. That was all about the process — this is all about the “gear”. We’re talking notebooks, planners, post-it notes, you name it. Everything you need to help you write down your goals and keep yourself on track in 2022.

Reviewing my goals from last year, before making new ones!

Great Planners for Goal Planning

I (Dianne) has very specific “needs” when it comes to planners. When I find one I like, I order it multiple years in a row. Inevitably that planner is discontinued and I have to start the search all over again. I am in “year 2” of my current planner, so fingers crossed it will last for a few more years. It is the Southworth 8.5″ x 11″ Planner that I found on Amazon.

Here are the features that I like about it:

  • It has both monthly and weekly pages
  • The weekly pages do NOT have times on them. Since I am working on “The Harper Girls” full-time, I don’t have a lot of scheduled meetings, so I prefer to use that space as a To Do list each day.
  • At the beginning of each month, there is a place for reflections and overall plans for the month.

One thing I should mention is that I do, of course, schedule my meetings and appointments in my phone (I’m not THAT old school haha). But that’s why I don’t like to have the times in my written planner.

Simple Monthly Planner

We’ve had a monthly planner for the family since forever. At one time it had the boys’ tennis match schedule, family parties, etc. Even though we (Dianne) are now empty nesters, we still use it. It’s still on the same place on the kitchen counter that it’s been for years. We still fill in our repair appointments, plans with friends, etc. so that each of know what the other is doing. It’s more habit than anything else.

Notebooks

Large Planning Notebook

We both love all kinds of notebooks. We also both like having different notebooks for different topics. Last year I (Dianne) found this notebook at Barnes & Noble that I love. It’s HUGE! It has 196 pages and I have used it all year for everything related to The Harper Girls blog. So all my ideas, webinar/training notes, you name it are all in this notebook. Because these are the notes that I take the most, I like having everything in one place.

If you want a specific cover design, a good place to look is Etsy. I mentioned I like different notebooks for different subjects and this is an example of a notebook I would use for all my fashion notes!

Other great places to look for notebooks and journals are T.J. Maxx, Marshall’s and Home Goods, World Market and of course, Target.

Goal Planning Accessories

Monitor Memo Board

If you’re working from home, and use a second monitor this memo board is awesome! Choose a version for either the left or right side of your screen, attach and you’re good to go! I (Jen) love using this for sticky notes for things I need to do, or need to remember.

Planning Stickers

These might seem a little “young” but they are still fun. I (Dianne) always put a sticker on our monthly calendar for birthdays. But with these you can do so much more and make your planner more interesting and fun!

I (Dianne) use these every day. I will stick a page on top of my planner with the most urgent things to do that day and to make any quick notes that I need. They are my go-to quick notepad.

Pens & Pencils

Post It Felt Tip Pens

We also love the felt tip pens by Noted too! They write really well, and come in beautiful colors! I do wish they had a black though, so we could use it for everything!

I (Jen) usually end up rotating different kinds of pens (sometimes depending on my mood, is that weird?). Typically I go between ballpoint pens and gel pens, and have phases where I use one or the other.

I have more pens than I know what to do with, and I use those too. But these are the tried and true!

Ballpoint Pens

There are so many ballpoint pens to choose from, but we both love the classic BiC stick pen. They write great and are always reliable to work. And with the great prices, you can have a few in every desk and “junk drawer” in your house!
