Depending on your undies situation before finding out you’re pregnant, you’re going to want to change up what you’re wearing a bit. Throughout your pregnancy, you’re likely going to feel uncomfortable quite a bit. So being comfortable in your maternity underwear is really important!
Comfortable Bras
First and foremost, comfortable bras are a MUST. If you’re an underwire wearer, get rid of them immediately. Your boobs are going to grow and be sore for a while. And when your bump starts to get bigger, an underwire will dig right into it.
There are lots of super soft bras to choose from, that will still give you the support you need. They’re so comfortable that you might be converted even after you have your baby!
Pregnancy Underwear
You might be thinking, I need new underwear? Seriously?! I know, I know. But, new and maternity-specific underwear are going to be a lot more comfortable than what you have right now.
You don’t need a ton, you can probably wear your existing undies for a while. But at some point, your booty might grow, and your underwear is going to sit very uncomfortably under your bump.
Pregnancy underwear is cut to sit under your bump, so you’re not trying to pull them up or down constantly throughout the day!
Belly Band
Once your bump starts popping, and it gets a little too heavy for your liking, a belly band is a great option. There’s different styles of belly bands, but in general they provide some mild compression and support your hips and lower back.
Wear your belly band under anything, but it will be especially helpful when wearing a dress. They’re easy to wear when you’re pregnant and the weather gets warmer, but they don’t provide much support!
Shapewear
Shapewear during pregnancy reels ridiculous. I know. You typically wear shapewear to suck things in, and there’s no sucking in this baby belly.
But! Like the belly band above, pregnancy-specific shapewear is wonderful for providing support to your hips and lower back. Especially if you’re wearing a dress, and you can see the belly band underneath.
During pregnancy, you should be showing off all those new curves, and shapewear will smooth things out a little bit so you feel confident and comfortable at the same time.
Bralettes
I know we already talked about bras, but there’s two more bra categories to look into!
If you’re not a huge fan of wearing bras all the time (who is?), check out some bralettes for around the house.
Super comfortable, and provide support while you’re at home, sleeping, whatever!
They don’t always give your boobs a lot of shape or lift, so if you want to wear them out of the house (because I definitely do), go with something baggier like a sweatshirt or loose sweater.
Pumping Bra/Nursing Bra
Last but not least, pumping and nursing bras. You won’t need these until after the baby is here, but make sure you have them beforehand so you’re all ready when they get here!
Nursing
Nursing bras come in all different styles, like regular bras you’d wear out of the house, all the way to bralettes.
Get a couple bralettes for sleeping that don’t have any clips, for easy access at night. When you’re sleep deprived, the last thing you’re going to want to do is mess with clips.
If you want something different during the day while you’re at home, there’s options that are super cute bralettes and even sports bras!
Going out in public? Any of the above options work well, or there’s more “traditional” bras that will give your boobs a little more shape.
Pumping
Whether you’re pumping exclusively, or throughout the day, a hands-free pumping bra strap is a necessity at a minimum!
These are like a strapless bra, and you put it on when you’re about to start pumping. Being hands free is already a game changer!
The ultimate game changer for me was the discovery of the pumping and nursing bra. A little bit more complicated with two sets of clips, but the first set transforms your bra into a pumping bra. Insert the breast shield right into your bra and you’re good to go!
If you’ve had a child already, and have pumped in any capacity, you know that sometimes it’s literally the last thing you want to do. And the thought of just putting on that strapless pumping bra is already a monumental task.
And that second clasp turns into a nursing bra! Anything that makes your pumping and nursing journey just a little bit easier is an absolute win!
