Can I Use Vaseline on my Face?

I recently heard about a phenomenon on TikTok called “slugging”, and although it might sound gross, it’s really not that bad! It’s actually using Vaseline on your face to lock in your skincare products and retain moisture.

You end up looking a little greasy and slimy like a slug!

Check out that shine!

Funny enough, I’ve been trying “slugging” for a while now, even though I didn’t know what it was until recently!

For as long as I can remember, my Grandma would put Vaseline on her skin every night. She had beautiful skin – I don’t actually remember ever seeing her with a zit now that I think of it.

I tried putting Vaseline on my face in my early teens, and I ended up with a breakout. But that was already not a great time for my skin, considering I went on Accutane a couple years later to clear up my crazy forehead of zits.

Thankfully, my skin has calmed down and I’ve taken a lot better care of it than I did in my teens and probably early twenties even. I used to think water was gross (I’m weird, I know), and would chug milk all the time. Which probably didn’t help the zit situation.

Being at home and not wearing makeup has been a good excuse to try new skincare routines, like using Vaseline all over my face!

According to Vaseline.com, petroleum jelly is made of natural waxes and mineral oils. And Vaseline is 100% triple-purified petroleum jelly. Plus, Vaseline is non-comedogenic, so it’s not going to clog your pores. Instead it’ll help protect your skin.

The first night I used Vaseline, I kept my skincare routine pretty simple. Cleansed using micellar water, then used my Dr. Dennis Gross Daily Peel pads and used the Vaseline all over my face. Including under my eyes too.

My skin felt super soft in the morning although it didn’t look all that different.

The next day, I decided to try my normal nighttime routine and put the Vaseline on top. I’ll sometimes do something similar with Rosehip Seed oil to lock in all of the skincare I’ve put on already.

I did the same routine for another three nights. While I didn’t notice any sort of dramatic improvement in my skin, I’ve been pretty happy with how my skin looks. And, no breakouts!

I think the facial peel pads are helping with my skin feeling softer, and the Vaseline is enhancing that softness.

Vaseline has a ton of other uses too, some you might not even expect! Use Vaseline on your cuticles while painting your nails, and any stray polish will come off easily! I also use Vaseline as a barrier when I dye my eyebrows to make sure the hair color doesn’t get all over the place!

Love wearing perfume but hate how quickly the scent goes away? Dab some Vaseline on your wrists to help lock in your perfume and prevent it from evaporating as quickly!

Have acne? The same way Vaseline can lock in moisture on your face, it can also lock in your zit zapping medicines. Since it’s non-comedogenic you don’t have to worry about it being the cause of any other acne.

Have super dry hands or feet? Slather on some Vaseline at night before going to bed, and wear socks and cotton gloves to lock in all the moisture while you sleep!

I had to have surgery done on my leg and the doctor covered it in vaseline. He said that it helps the healing and not so much of a scar. One of the girls in the office said that she uses it on her body, She said that you only need alittle amount, as it spreads real good.

Agreed! You only need a little, so you don’t end up a slippery mess!
