How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 6 (Thanksgiving Edition)

Last updated on January 9th, 2023 at 12:26 pm

It’s time for How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 6 – the Thanksgiving edition. Two of the three items you can easily wear for Thanksgiving dinner. The third, the poinsettia necklace, you can start wearing as early as the day after . Of course, that’s only if that’s when you start your holiday outfits, but why not before? We wanted to show this necklace now because they tend to sell out close to Christmas and we want you to be ready!

If this is your first time here, here’s how How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 6 works: We both decide on three items that we want to style. We do not share how we were going to style each one, so that we can’t influence each other. Sometimes we will style things very similar and sometimes very different. But we hope in all cases we give you some style inspiration, no matter what your age or life stage!

The Challenge for How to Wear it At Any Age Volume 6

The Harper Girls How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 6 Thanksgiving Edition

Here are the items we’ve selected for How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 6:

Plaid Shacket. As you know, shackets of all styles are in right now and we love the plaid version because they look like fall, football and Thanksgiving.

We found these on Amazon for a great price and we really love the fit and the quality. They are nice and thick and a little less boxy that some of the other styles out there. We picked two different colors to coordinate with our existing wardrobes. Can you guess who picked which one?? The price of these shackets are $38.99.

Orange Rust Top. This top is another great Amazon find. It’s very simple and a great fall color, but the bell sleeves add just the right amount of detail to make it a little more fun. It’s priced at $22.99

Poinsettia Necklace. This is just a fun necklace to own. It has a little bling, which makes it festive. The white color keeps it a little subdued, but if you want more color, it does also come in red. We got this at macys.com. Macy’s is always a great place to look for items like this. Their in-house brand, Charter Club always has a holiday jewelry line. The regular price is $69.50, but it’s been on sale. We paid $42 for ours.

Let the styling begin!

Orange Rust Top – Jen

This is really cute to wear for a more casual Thanksgiving dinner. It’s the perfect color for the fall season, and is comfortable for when you eat way too much food. Wear your stretchiest and most comfortable jeans, or at least a pair you don’t mind unbuttoning after dinner!

Dress it up with gold jewelry – layered necklaces, or one big statement necklace.

For Thanksgiving, I wouldn’t go too heavy on the dark lipstick, because it’ll end up all over your face after you eat! A pumpkin-color smoky eye would look gorgeous and compliment the top!

While we styled this differently, our thought process on this shirt was the same: the fall colors and the fact that it has lots of room for overeating!   The top is also very lightweight, which is nice for a large gathering.  Even though I love the cozy look of sweaters, they can be hot if there are a lot of people at your party.

Because I was thinking of this specifically for Thanksgiving, I decided to wear the shirt as a tunic and paired it with my Spanx faux-leather leggings.  They are comfortable and just a little dressier than a plain cotton pair. And, because they are Spanx, they will keep my stomach in if I decide to have that extra piece of pumpkin pie.

The other thing I did because I was visualizing this at Thanksgiving was to focus on the top of the outfit.  The reason for that is because you are mostly sitting at the dinner table for the night and this is the part of you that most people will see.  So I wanted to add some interest from the waist up.  That’s why I like the fall rust color, combined with the gold jewelry.  It seems to match the turkey and the mashed potatoes.

It hasn’t dropped into winter temperatures in Michigan yet, so you can still wear a super cute shacket! We did a post earlier this spring about how to style a shacket, and now we have a more fall version!

Wear this shacket for running errands and wear either a solid tshirt, or a graphic tee, some leggings and either some combat boots or white sneakers.

If you want to dress it up a little bit more, pair it with a thin solid sweater, a lot of jewelry, jeans and some ankle booties!

Or, if you want to take it one step further, try what I did! I got this sweater dress in one size too large (Mango recommended a large, but I’m not sure why I listened), and it’s a little big. But, using a belt I was able to cinch it in a bit. And it looks so stinking cute with this shacket and over the knee boots!

If you receive our newsletter (and if you don’t, you can sign up HERE), then you may remember that I have a love/hate relationship with plaid.  I go back and forth between thinking it’s the best thing ever and thinking I look like a lumberjack. But because plaid shackets are so on trend right now (and I do like how they look), I thought I would give it one more try.  My goal was to see how feminine I could make my outfit look, while still keeping it casual.

Because shackets tend to be oversized, I didn’t want to add any more bulk, which is why I opted for a simple tank underneath and leggings.  (As a side note, I did style this as an indoor outfit, not as an outdoor look).  I have tanks in almost every color – every time I see a color that might work in my wardrobe at Target, I pick up another one and add it to the collection.  Can you believe I actually had four shades of wine to pick from.  I do recommend doing the same because so often when you need a specific color, you don’t have or can’t find it.

I also knew with the potential bulkiness that I would want a heel and had a vision for some Chelsea boots which I didn’t own.  I’ve always been curious about ordering things from Shein, but they are almost too inexpensive. I worried about the quality. So I thought this was the perfect time to give them a try because I wanted some wine colored boots and didn’t want to invest a lot in them.  So I ordered these from Shein for $29 and I absolutely love them.  I can see me  getting much more use out of them than I planned.

Poinsettia Necklace  – Jen

It’s never too early to start thinking about what you’re going to wear during the holiday season, to parties and family get-togethers.

This necklace is so gorgeous, and will dress up any outfit for the holidays!

One really fun and unique way to wear this necklace is with a buttoned shirt, with a twist. Button the shirt all the way to the top, so you have a pronounced collar, and put on the necklace under the collar.

You can wear this with a white button-up, one with a pattern, or even a denim shirt! Wear jeans or black pants, and black boots or ankle booties.

Compliment the necklace with your makeup too! During the holidays, I love basic, neutral eyeshadow (with or without glitter, depending on the event!), plus a wing liner and lots of eyelashes.

Then wear either a bright red or dark plum color liquid lipstick to pull it all together. Make sure you’re wearing a liquid lipstick, so it doesn’t get all over your face when snacking and drinking! Holiday parties with just appetizers (and not a full meal) are much safer for pulling off a bold lip look!

I decided to dress this up a bit. What I like about the necklace being white is that you can use it on any color and make it festive. I love pink as a holiday color – especially that “frosty pink” that reminds you of candy and sweet things. So, I couldn’t wait to try the necklace on with the simple sweater dress. I think it does the trick.

These boots I added this year and I love how they can go with anything. I had been looking for this color for quite a while. Most neutral colors are more taupe and I wanted something more tan like this. You will probably see these in a lot of pictures this season! Here’s a tip by the way, if you buy something on vincecamuto.com, you can return them in-store at DSW. I couldn’t find these boots any place else, and knowing I had a place I could return them if they didn’t fit was a great selling feature.
