THE CHALLENGE FOR “HOW TO WEAR IT AT ANY AGE” VOLUME 27
DENIM DRESS – JEN’S STYLING
What I love about this denim dress is now that I have two kids, I can wear it and not have to worry about showing people things that they don’t want to. It’s great for warm weather when you want to look cute but also not overheat.
If you know me, you know that I will pair almost anything with a denim or leather jacket. In this case, though, I can’t really pair a denim jacket with a denim dress. I mean, I could, but it probably wouldn’t look great. And a leather jacket, while it would look cool, is probably way way too warm.
So what would I wear? A cardigan!
I haven’t worn heels a lot lately just because of carrying my kids and carrying all of the things that come with my kids. But I’m loving these sandals from Target, that look really similar to a VERY expensive pair from Hermes!
JEN’S ALTERNATE LOOK
For a dressed up, dressed down look, I love the idea of pairing this dress with a super girly pastel baseball cap and white sneakers!
This outfit would be so cute for meeting up with friends for brunch when you want to look cute, but still want to be comfortable.
DENIM DRESS – DIANNE’S STYLING
This dress looks like it might feel form-fitting but it’s not. There is an elastic panel in the back and it is loose from the waist down. So it feels comfortable and it’s easy to walk in.
I wanted to go with a “denim monochrome” look which is why I paired the dress with the denim sandals. I wasn’t sure at first if that would be a good look, but I like it. There is enough “distress” in the shoes to not make them look matchy-matchy.
Keeping my outfit monochrome lent itself to me carrying this striped straw tote. It’s a perfect pop of color. I paired it with silver jewelry because I prefer silver with denim as opposed to gold. Maybe it’s the cowboy/southwest thing.
I would wear this dress everywhere this summer because it fits like a t-shirt dress. I would wear it to meet friends, shopping, you name it!
DIANNE’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
As Jen mentioned, it’s hard to wear a heavy jacket with this dress, so a cardigan is perfect. I absolutely love this one I found with the small blue flowers on it. So feminine and perfect for this dress in color and style. I added to the floral theme with the earrings and rounded it out with a cute pair of kitten heels. You are ready for brunch!
Striped Short Set – Jen’s Styling
And if you’ve been around for a little while you know how much I love stripes. So much so that I tend to consider stripes a neutral. So when I saw this set, I thought it was made for me.
For my main look, I wanted to wear the two pieces together. I haven’t had or worn a lot of matching sets like this, but I really love how it looks. It’s so polished and easy to throw together, but looks like you tried. Which I can definitely appreciate!
JEN’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
I love the stripes. I love the color and I love that it can be worn many different ways.
The top with a pair of jeans is great for the office. Wear a white tank tucked into your jeans, and do a French tuck with the top, with a little bit of the tank showing. If you like layered necklaces, now is your time to shine!
These bottoms with a simple top are just as easy to wear as jean shorts, and really, probably more comfortable. The more outfits in your wardrobe that you just threw together, but look very well thought out, the better.
Striped Short Set – Dianne’s Styling
I think of this as the perfect vacation/travel oufit. The shirt is oversized, so it’s easy to wear a tank or a tee underneath. So, start out in the morning with all three pieces and as the day gets warmer you can shed the long sleeve shirt. It would also be perfect for evening walks on the beach.
I love a good platform sandal and I have a pair from Adidas that are so comfortable and can wear for long periods of time. Since I am only 5’3″, I like having a little extra height.
DIANNE’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
Striped Linen Wide Leg Pants – Jen’s Styling
What I love about these pants is how easy it is to wear them in the summertime when everything feels hot and sticky and you don’t feel like wearing jeans or jean shorts.
Wearing a bodysuit with these pants shows off your curves in all the right places! And (of course) it’s easy to throw a jean jacket on top if you want a little more coverage, or it gets chilly at night.
JEN’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
Throwing on these linen pants is as easy as wearing leggings when running errands, but with more style.
These platform sandals give you a little bit of height, and some style, along with the graphic t shirt.
It’s giving off a boho vibe, which feels really fun and laid back for the summer time, when everything (maybe) is a little more relaxed.
Or maybe if you dress like you’re relaxed, you’ll end up more relaxed? We can hope, right?
Striped Linen Wide Leg Pants – Dianne’s Styling
I love pairing red with black and white, so this was an easy outfit for me to put together. I would easily swap out the red for a black top for a little more sophisticated look, but for a day look, the red is it for me.
Heads up – the pants are really long, so you would need to hem or pin them up. I do like a small heel with a wide leg pant so I added the kitten heels. I like how wide leg pants break with a heel as opposed to a sneaker, but a sneaker is also a great way to wear them.
DIANNE’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
I really like off-the-shoulder tops and I think these pants are perfect to wear with one. It’s a little bit dressier style, one that you could wear to brunch or dinner, but still be amazingly comfortable.
I kept the accessories fairly simple. I think black straw bags are perfect for summer. Usually I like to carry brighter color bags in the summer, but sometimes a black bag is the perfect fit. So, a black straw bag is the perfect combination of black and summer.
Sleeveless Black Sweater with White Trim – Jen’s Styling
This top reminds me of something you’d pay a lot for at a place like White House Black Market. I still have a hard time paying a lot of money for a top, so this feels like it’s a great deal because you’re getting the style at an affordable price point.
I would love to wear this top out on a date night with my husband, when I want to feel put together. He sees me in sweatpants more often than not, so this might be a nice change of pace.
Black pants and heels pull it all together for me with a monochromatic look!
JEN’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
I haven’t had or worn white jeans in a long time, but this top is just begging for white bottoms. It looks so chic and stylish, like you spent ages putting together this outfit. When really, you were able to put it together rather quickly.
Because of the high neckline, I would focus on jewelry other than necklaces. So piling on the rings and bracelets! Hoop or dangly earrings would look great too, but those are definitely more Aunt Dianne’s style than mine!

So, with the black and white striped pants, I added red as an accent color. With this outfit, I went with green. I love adding pops of color during the summer, I think it’s so fun and not as easy to do in the fall.
This top can definitely be dressed up or down. It’s a thin sweater material so it fits very nicely. I have to agree with Jen in that it looks and feels like a much more expensive top (and we got it on Amazon). You can pair with top with just about any bottoms – it looks great with denim and it would look just as great with a skirt or dress pants.
DIANNE’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
As I mentioned, you can wear this top with just about any bottom, so I thought it would look great with a dressy pair of shorts. It’s a very chic look , perfect for an evening out on vacation. Cool, comfortable and classic!
