Jen’s Warm and Fashionable Picks
I’m going to admit something, when it gets super cold outside, I’ll prioritize being warm over looking cute.
My go-to is usually a North Face parka that covers as much of my body as possible.
I will say that puffer jackets are in style this season!
But, there are times when I need to look a little nicer – like when my husband and I are attending a Broadway in Detroit show.
Aunt Dianne is the queen of jackets, but here are some that I wear and would wear!
A pea coat is always a classic choice when you want to dress up. I would wear a pea coat in the winter when visiting clients at work. I found this one at Nordstrom.
This J. Crew Villa coat has a funnel neck and can be worn multiple ways! Zip it all the way up, or zip it part way up and tuck in a scarf.
One thing to keep in mind, if you’re wearing makeup, your foundation and lipstick might rub off on your coat. With your foundation, make sure you set it with powder so it doesn’t smudge as much!
This Mango belt handmade coat ($199) may not be the warmest in sub-zero temperatures, but it’s really cute! And because it’s on the baggier side, you can easily wear a chunky sweater underneath to keep warm.
Dianne’s Picks
I have something to admit too – when it gets cold outside, I have a hard time prioritizing warm over cute (the opposite of Jen!). But as I’ve gotten older, I have figured out a little bit better on how and when to choose “cute” over “warm”. It’s probably all just common sense. So, even if it’s below freezing but I know that I only have to go from the car to someone’s front door, I will choose cute, starting with the coat below!
Last year on the America’s Thanksgiving Parade, one of the anchors covering the parade had on a coat in this color and I have been on a mission ever since to find one just like it. It’s been a year, but I finally found this at Express. The nice part is, if you like the coat, but don’t want to go bright pink like me, the coat comes in nine different colors.
This next coat is a little more practical. Before our recent trip to New York, I wanted to find a coat that was at least somewhat cute and waterproof. I actually found this coat talked about on some other fashion websites so it made me take a look. It’s really hard to find something that’s cute and functional.
This coat is from Eddie Bauer, which made me hesitant at first. Eddie Bauer is a great company and I buy a lot of men’s items there, but not as much for myself. But I was pleasantly surprised by this coat. It does have a more slimming fit and with the right accessories can be quite fashionable.
From a practical perspective, what I love about this coat is the removable lining which really makes it two coats in one. You can wear it without the lining in spring and fall and then add the lining when it gets colder. The temperature rating with the lining is 25 degrees Fahrenheit!
I am a sucker for anything sherpa! So when I found this sherpa lined jean shacket at Old Navy, I thought it was great. It may not be the jacket for January in Michigan, but if you live someplace that doesn’t get as cold, this might be a great jacket to have in your closet for those cooler days!
If you like a white coat but want something a little warmer, then you might like this white puffer jacket at Macy’s. As Jen mentioned, puffer jackets continue to be the trend. And this one really falls into the “warm and fashionable” category!
I might add a bright colored beanie and gloves for a pop of color. Or, if you want the complete “snow bunny” look, you could just as easily go monochromatic (also a trend this year) and add white accessories.
Do these coats make you feel warm and fashionable? We hope they give you that cozy feeling and keep you warm all winter long!
