Girls Guide to NYC: Great Eats, No Diets

Last updated on October 27th, 2021 at 09:29 pm

Here we are withe second part of our NYC experience: Great Eats. There were a couple of ground rules when it came to meals and snacks 1) We had to eat local (Starbucks being the only exception) and 2) We would not be dieting.

We said anything goes and that’s just what we did. There were “touristy” foods from New York pizza to eating hot dogs from street vendors (yep, we did that).  Here’s some of our favorites when it came to great eats.

Great Eats: Main Meals

La Pecora Bianca

Great Eats: La Pecora Bianca

This place had great food, but it’s also the place that Dianne got to meet up with her high school bestie.

The pasta and salads were great, but look at this tiramisu – we almost didn’t want to bite into it (but we did, and it was soooo good!).

There are several locations throughout the city, we dined at their SoHo location.

Hold Fast Kitchen & Spirits

Great Eats Hold Fast Kitchen & Spirits

This restaurant is in the Theatre District, a little outside of Times Square. Down a couple steps you find an eclectic dimly-lit bar and restaurant with great food and drinks. Plus, they’re big supporters of the performing arts community, and have a program to support performers who may need a little extra help because of the pandemic.

Everything we had was fantastic – from the ahi tuna tacos to the loaded fries, and the delicious cocktails. Definitely recommend!

Pasta Lovers

In addition to being New Yorkers, we are also all part Italian.  So we had to have a traditional Italian meal, like this delicious veal parmigiana! If you are looking for a classic Italian menu, with great bread and Chianti on the wine list, then this is the place for you.

Great Eats: Snacks and Drinks

Pomme Frites

Yes, there is a restaurant that sells only french fries and dipping sauces. Enough said. But, seriously, they were delicious and they do fry in gluten-free sunflower oil, which is good to know.

Amorino Gelato

This might be the prettiest gelato that we’ve ever seen. Everyone that works there is an artist – this is their signature rose. You can also include a macaron with your gelato, something we’ve never seen before. But what’s most important is that the gelato tastes as good as it looks.

Dō, Cookie Dough Confections

The flagship store is located in Greenwich Village, but there are locations throughout the city. There’s a lot of different treats you can get, but the pièce de résistance is the cookie dough! The cookie dough comes in a lot of different flavors, and you can make it into a sundae or even a milkshake!

Make sure you get water or milk with your order, because the cookie dough is dense, but oh-so-good!

The Rum House

The Rum House

A little bit outside Times Square, The Rum House feels like an old-school bar, with wood and copper decor, a nightly jazz band, and delicious drinks. And there’s more on the menu than just rum, so you can get just about any cocktail you like! It has a great vibe that feels very New York.

Dianne’s drink (left) is one their house original drinks, the “Rum Rum Runner” and Jen’s drink (right) is a rum Old Fashioned,

“Tourist” Snacks

We already mentioned that we did indulge in the delicious New York pizza and hot dogs from a street vendor. If you want to continue the tourist snacks and gifts, then these two shops in the heart of Times Square are fun to visit and to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The M & M’s World Store

Believe it or not, this store is three levels. It’s probably more merchandise than it is candy, but it’s fun to walk through the entire store. Each color M&M even had it’s own line of merchandise. We did some shopping here for the little ones.

Location: 1600 Broadway. Click HERE to visit their website.

Hershey’s Chocolate World

The Hershey Store is a little more smaller, but probably has a lot more candy. Candy is the primary focus in this store. It includes all the Hershey favorites: Hershey bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kats, etc. We didn’t indulge since it was right after dinner at the Pasta House, but they do have a S’Mores Bar, which sounded amazing!

Location: 20 Times Square Building. Click HERE to visit their website.
