Beauty At Any Age Vol 9: How to Wear Colorful Eyeshadow

Wearing colorful eyeshadow can seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! There are easy ways to incorporate color into your current eyeshadow routine that are easy and look beautiful!

Colorful eyeshadow is something you can have fun and experiment with. There are lots of ways to go. You can pick a color that matches your outfit to go with a monochromatic look. Here are some celebrity looks that did just that.

But you can also use color to make your natural eye color pop as well. We did an entire post entitled “The Best Eyeshadow For Your Eye Color” that helps you pick the best shade for your eye color. There are a lot of tips in that post to help you find the best shade for best easy and bold looks.

I am wearing the Jacklyn Cosmetics “Strawberry Feels” palette, shown below.

I love doing a color eyeliner, either with shadow or a liquid eyeliner, for a super fun pop of color!

Starting with an eyeliner brush, start with the eyeshadow and place where you want your liner/wing to be.

Once you’re happy with the placement, wet your brush with setting spray, and then get some more eyeshadow. This will make the color a little more intense and give it staying power.

If you’ve applied your liner and aren’t so sure about it, use a black or brown liquid liner and draw a thin line where your liner is (but don’t cover it up!). This will give you a hint of color that isn’t as “in your face”.

You don’t have to spend a ton on a new eyeshadow palette either. There’s a lot of eyeshadow palettes that have pops of color, among plenty of neutral shades. So you know you can use pretty much everything!

So, with this particular look, I am doing two things at once. I am matching my eyeshadow to my outfit AND I am wearing a color that enhances my natural hazel eyes. It also helps that purple/lavender is my favorite color, so that makes it easy.

A while back, I used to wear purple shadow on a daily basis, no matter what I was wearing. Over time I switched to more neutrals but I still love a great purple colorful eyeshadow. I have several palettes that I keep on hand, so there are always options.

For the look above, I blended several colors from Makeup Revolutions’s Colour Book #4. I also used a colored eye liner in Velvet Violet from Charlotte Tilbury. I like to have a paler lip when I wear colorful eyeshadow. My lipstick is Lancôme L’Absolu Cream lipstick. My color is discontinued, but the closest appears to be “Blush Classique” (#337)

Here are some more colorful eyeshadow palettes I like:

I am also a fan of green eyeshadow, again, because it works well with my hazel eyes. I wore this look in another recent post, “Stuck in a Makeup Rut? Try Some Of These Changes”
