Jen’s Swimsuit Shopping Thoughts
Summer is almost here, and with that comes lazy lake and ocean days, and pool visits. Mike’s family, including Aunts and Uncles, have cabins on the same lake. Summer days at the lake make me think of bathing suits, being outside, boat rides, spending time with family, and relaxing.
I don’t know about you, but I could use some relaxing. There’s just something about sitting on the deck and reading a magazine or a book that I’ve neglected for too long.
Shopping for a new bathing suit isn’t always fun, so we’ve gathered some awesome options for you to check out! One pieces, bikinis and coverups for everyone!
Something to note as you go through this list, I favor more simple bathing suit styles, because I don’t want crazy tan lines. My skin holds on to melanin like crazy. I’m pretty pale, but if you can believe it I still have tan lines from last summer. No crazy straps or necklines for me!
Also, I’m not going to recommend any crazy one-piece suits that need to be tied in the back. I’ve done that before, and you never realize how often you actually pee until you have to ask your husband to un-tie and re-tie your suit every time you need to go.
And this should go without saying, if you have a body, you have a bikini body! Wear whatever you want, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks!
Dianne’s Swimsuit Shopping Thoughts
I agree with Jen – if you have a body, you have a bikini body! We all have things we don’t like about our bodies, myself included. I haven’t worn a bikini in quite some time, even when I felt more comfortable in them. For some reason, I just prefer a one-piece. I feel I look better in them and feel more confident. I think that’s the key – feeling confident no matter what style you are wearing.
That said, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve started to look for more different features. Ruching is one of them. Having some ruching at the side or across the middle gives the appearance of “movement” so you don’t have to worry about your tummy being completely flat all the time. It can mask a lot of flaws.
The other thing I look for is a V-neck. A V-neck can elongate your neck and give you a more long and lean look. I tend to look for swimsuits that have a V-neck with a “wrap” look. I find those very flattering for most people. Since I like to wear halter type tops in the summer, I will look for a straps that have that same shape if I can find them. That gives me the best tan lines to match my day-to-day summer wardrobe.
I am fortunate to have a chest that needs some support. So I will also look for a suit with some soft cups or a some support. We don’t want things hanging too low! I’ve tried strapless suits, mostly because of not wanting tan lines, but they aren’t the best fit for my figure. And I way past the point o selecting my bathing suit based on “needing a good tan for prom!”
