It’s time to talk about fall makeup! You definitely don’t have to change up your makeup each season, but for us, it’s fun! You don’t have to spend a ton of money either. With a couple new products, or trying out the products you already have in a different way, you can mix up your look!
Summer is all about no-makeup makeup, with pops of bright colors. You’re having so much fun during the summer you don’t have time to do your makeup!
In fall, you can transition to warm brown eyeshadow, even smoked out a bit! Brownish nude lipsticks, and burgundy, plum and dark red lipsticks when you really want to make a statement.
Read on to see how we both alter our products for our fall makeup looks.

Fall Makeup: Eyes
Jen’s Eye Looks for Fall
You don’t need to spend a lot of money on new eyeshadow colors to give this fall look a try. You probably even have a warm brown eyeshadow in one of your palettes somewhere!
If you do want to try out some new colors, these eyeshadow palettes are all really affordable and have beautiful colors!
For a really easy look, use a fluffy eyeshadow brush and do a wash of a mid-tone brown all over your lid. And add a little under your lash line too. Make sure you blend those edges so there’s no harsh lines!
If you want to do a smokey look with more colors, try out this awesome tape trick!
We’re starting with eyes first, so prime your eyelids however you usually do, but don’t do your foundation or concealer yet.
Take a piece of scotch tape, and stick it to the back of your hand first so it’s not as sticky. Next, put a piece near each eye angling upward, how a perfect wing liner would look. Pretend you’re extending your lower lashline to get the perfect angle.
Now you can go in with eyeshadow and create a smokey eye look with a sharp line. Keep blending all the different colors you want to use, so all the colors work together seamlessly.
Add some liner if you want to give your eyes a little more definition! I like to stick with brown for looks like these so the liner isn’t too harsh.
Remove the tape when your eyes are done, clean up any fallout, and continue your face makeup as usual.
And don’t forget mascara! Make those lashes nice and big!
Dianne’s Eye Looks for Fall
While I do wear lots of brown and rust colors for fall, I have a lot more “pink” in my skin so I decided to go with more blue tones for my fall makeup looks. I also have hazel eyes, so these tones work perfectly to make my eyes pop.
Believe it or not, purple eye shadow shades are one of the most recommended for hazel eyes. I’m not entirely sure why, but it does work. It’s perfect for me because I love to wear plums and purples during the fall and winter. Here is the color palette I am using for this plum look:
I used the 4th shade shade from the left on my lid and the far right shade in the crease and in the outer corners. Sometimes I will use three colors but this time I only used two. I also didn’t blend this time. I wanted my lids more neutral and only color in the crease and outer corners.
For a liner, I have a tried and true that I like, which is Mac’s Fluidline in Dipdown. It’s a basic brown that I use with every color shadow. I like the gel formula because it is long lasting and doesn’t smudge. While I like the look of pencils, I always seem to have to re-apply, especially under my lower lashes.
For my lashes, I have to be fully transparent and let you know that I temporarily have lash extensions. I decided to get them because two of my sons were/are getting married two months apart – and I am not very good at false eyelashes.
While I love how they look, they are a little difficult to maintain. You have to very careful, especially when removing your eye makeup to not pull them out. I did this once before for my oldest son’s wedding and vowed never to do it again – but that was four years ago. The toughest thing will be when they fall out – my lashes will feel so skimpy. So I will be trying Rodan + Fields Lash Boost – so stayed tuned on how that turns out!
For my second look, I went a little “radical” and went with green eyeshadow. I know that’s not for everyone, but, again, it works well with my hazel eyes. My hazel eyes are “green hazel” as opposed to more “gold hazel” so I like the way it looks, but I have to be careful not to use too much and look like I’m back in the 1970’s.
I used “Calm” all over my lids to start and then added a layer of “Huff” over that and then used “Dope” in the crease and on the outer corners. Next I put a thin line of “Dope” in the outer corners of my lower lashes but put my liner on top.
I did use a blending brush to blend all the colors together. I hope you agree that it makes my eyes pop. This look is probably best for hazel, green or brown eyes, but don’t be afraid to give it a try!
Fall Makeup: Lips
Jen’s Lip Looks for Fall
In the fall, I love doing dark lips, like burgundy or red. When I’m doing dark lips, I prefer liquid lipstick formulas so it doesn’t end up all over my face. At least for me, if I’m eating or drinking it’s going to end up on my chin somehow.
Start with a lip liner, and it’s ok if it isn’t the same color as the lipstick. Especially since you’re using a dark color.
After applying your lip color, use the lip liner again if you need to re-define your lips anywhere. Then using a concealer or foundation, use a skinny brush to clean up any areas that might look a little messy.
Use a lip brush too if you need a little help with the edges!
Dianne’s Lip Looks for Fall
For my first look – the plum palette, I did use a very plum lipstick. I did not use a lip liner for this because I didn’t have one close to this color. This Revlon lipstick goes on very smooth and is moisturizing so I didn’t feel at a loss without the liner.
For the green color palette, I wanted a more neutral color. Since green can be warm or cool, I wanted something in between. If I was wearing more of an olive green, I would probably go a little more on the warm/yellow side.
I used the Makeup Revolution Friends Lip Kit in Rachel – but unfortunately, it’s out of stock. So I am linking to the Phoebe kit, which is very similar and also the Rachel lipstick, which I have also used.
In the Rachel kit, there were two glosses and a matching lip liner. I used the lighter color gloss with the lip liner, which is what I would do with the Phoebe kit. I also own the Rachel lipstick which is a little different shade, but pretty also. It is more of cool tone than a warm tone.
Fall Makeup: Face
Jen’s “Fall Face”
When doing bolder eye and lip looks, I like to keep my blush more subdued and on the warm/peachy side. I also keep bronzer to a minimum. I use a little bit to give my face a little more definition, but not as much as I typically use.
Dianne’s “Fall Face”
I switch between a more peachy blush (because of the natural redness in my face) and this classic blush from Nars, described as a “peachy-pink” which I find to be an accurate description! I am using it in both my looks.
Last but not least, fall nails!
Jen’s Fall Nails
Come fall, I switch out my bright colors and cool pink neutrals, for dark, vampy nails and grey/taupe neutrals.

I do tend to wear a lot of plums and reds in the fall, but I also like all kinds of brown and orange tones – on both my hands and feet. It’s easy to stop thinking about pedicures this time of year, especially if you live in the northern states. But there’s always that one day of Indian Summer where all of a sudden you’re wearing sandals for a couple of days and you’ll want your toenails to look great. Here are two of my selections:
