This is one of the best times of the year for accessories (in my opinion anyway). Bright color purses, pastel print scarves and my absolute favorite, summer jewelry. I don’t know how or why my love for summer jewelry started. This is one of the few things that I don’t remember my mother wearing, so I must have come into it all on my own.
Why do I love summer jewelry so much? For me, it’s an easy way to add a pop of color and some fun to sundresses, halter-style tops and just a basic tee. One of the things that I love to wear in summer is white, especially in a monochrome way – a white dress, white denim with a white top, etc. A bright necklace or a bright pair of earrings adds that great pop. Summer jewelry is usually pretty inexpensive as well. I think manufacturers are aware that with the limited time that it can be worn, people don’t want to spend a lot.
That said, I do feel that you have to be a little bit careful with summer jewelry or you can risk being a little on the “gaudy” side. So, most of the time I will only add one piece, maybe two at the most if it’s subtle. Let me share some of my favorite ways to wear summer jewelry.

Summer Jewelry – Earrings
Fun summer earrings are probably the easiest to find and the easiest to wear. In most cases you can add them to any outfit. I like adding colors to my white outfits and white jewelry to my navy outfits and black outfits. I do love navy/white and black/white combos in the summertime.
Remember when I said that I wear bright earrings with all-white outfits? These represent the style I was referring too. They are fun, but a little goes a long way!
I’ve had these straw earrings for a few years and I still get compliments on them all the time. I mentioned this Amazon set in a previous post and got a lot of positive feedback. So I will put them here again — they are a great deal for $12.99 (as of 6/10/21).
How cute are these sun earrings? They just look like you should be on vacation!
I discovered Reese Witherspoon’s company, Draper James, a couple of years back and I love it. All of her products have “southern charm” and she has lots of florals and gingham prints. I bought a similar pair of these magnolia earrings last year. They are so pretty and feminine.
If you’re not into florals and you don’t want an “all straw” earring, then these last two options might be best for you. The left is a simple acrylic from Amazon and the right is straw with white glass beading from Stella & Dot.
Summer Jewelry – Necklaces
Necklaces can also makes a summer statement. I use the same self-imposed rules here – less is more, with one exception. This statement necklace from White House Black Market is to die for. I haven’t purchased it yet because I haven’t come up with a place to wear it, but I am definitely considering it!
If you’re looking for something a little more subdued, this may be a better option for you:
This next necklace I got at Target and featured it in our “How to Wear It At Any Age, Volume 2“. I actually wore it with this same shirt and wide leg linen pants. This is one that can easily be dressed up or down.
Another one of my “summer loves” in summer jewelry is turquoise/blue colors. I think it looks great against tanned skin. Here are a couple of options, one a little more whimsical than the other!
Summer Jewelry – Bracelets
Bracelets are another easy and subtle way to add some “summer” to your jewelry, starting with this adorable gingham bangle:
The two above are a little more traditional. The one on the left reminds me of Greece! And, if you want to add some patriotic jewelry to your collection, this Americana bracelet from SUGARFIX by Baublebar for Target is just perfect.
Summer Jewelry – Watches & Apple Watch Bands
Watches are a great way to add some everyday summer style. Watches are the one thing that I will pair up with another piece of summer jewelry, especially if it’s a plain white watch. I know a lot of people can’t let go of their Apple Watches (me included), so I added some watch band options. I do use my white silicone Apple Watch band in the summer, and you can also add a summer bracelet stack to your Apple Watch, as Jen talks about in her “How To” for bracelet stacks.
And last, but not least, a couple of options for some summer Apple Watch bands. I just picked a couple to let you know they are out there. You can find lots more on etsy.com.
