THE CHALLENGE FOR “HOW TO WEAR IT AT ANY AGE” VOLUME 28
ONE SHOULDER DRESS – DIANNE’S STYLING
Shop Dianne’s Look: Dress, Belt, Earrings exact, all else similar
This dress is so feminine – I just love it. And it’s not just the cut, I think the pattern we selected just adds to the femininity of the dress. I really liked bringing out the pink accents in the dress with my belt and handbag. The belt makes it a little more casual I think, better for brunch or girls’ outing, but you can easily wear it unbelted as a wedding guest dress.
There is an elastic waist to give the dress more shape which is why it can easily go unbelted. If you do want to wear a belt – you could also add something metallic or a little dressier to wear to a wedding. I also think with the pattern and the ruffled bottom, the one-shoulder is more feminine than sexy!
DIANNE’S ALTERNATE LOOK:
As I mentioned, this dress would also be great as a wedding guest dress. To dress it up a bit, I added the silver accessories in the shoes and earrings, and a touch of rhinestone on the handbag. I still like a pink accent with this dress, so I added that with the wrap. I think this dress looks great either way!
ONE SHOULDER DRESS – JEN’S STYLING
‘Tis the season for bridal showers, baby showers and weddings. And this dress would look great at any of them! I’m all about rewearing dresses for different events, and I plan to do just that! My cousin’s baby shower is coming up, and I’m already thinking about wearing this!

Jen’s Alternate Look:
I wear a lot of neutrals, but I couldn’t resist when I saw these pink slingbacks. The dress has just enough pink in it for the shoes to be complimentary. The cardigan and mother of pearl earrings make this such a sweet outfit.
Surprise to no one, if I wanted to wear this dress to a wedding I’d definitely pair it with my faux leather jacket!
BRIGHT PINK CHINO SHORTS – DIANNE’S STYLING
Shop Dianne’s Look: Shorts and Sandals exact, everything else similar
The chino short is back and bigger than ever. It feels like there are so many more shorts options this season. You have your classic linen and denim, but I feel like the chino is now more everywhere.
Since it’s summer, there’s no reason to not go bright with your shorts, which is why we picked this bright pink color. I had just purchased this top at Marshall’s and thought it was a perfect piece for these shorts. I realize that I back to pairing blue and pink again, but I love the combination of the two together.
This is a great casual outfit – for shopping, the farmer’s market, carnivals and more! (Wouldn’t some pink cotton candy just look great with this outfit?
Dianne’s Alternate Look:
One of my favorite combinations is pink and black. If I didn’t already have the blouse I have on, my go-to would have been black. This is another casual look, adding the black striped top and the platform sneakers. I am really loving platform sneakers right now. I think they give a cute, casual look, but literally elevate the look. Since I am only 5′ 3″, they really help to elongate my looks.
BRIGHT PINK CHINO SHORTS – JEN’S STYLING
These pink shorts bring out the preppy gal in me! I’ve had this white shirt from Madewell for ages, but they have a linen version that’s almost exactly the same!
My Disney loafers aren’t available anymore, but these loafer slides would make a super cute outfit! I have a pair of worn out black loafer slides, so maybe it’s time for a new pair. Hmmm.
I want to be wearing this outfit while drinking a bubbly rose with friends!

Jen’s Alternate Look:
These are the same shorts, but the outfit is a completely different style! Switch it up from preppy to casual in a flash with a graphic t-shirt and sneakers. The Adidas Sambas are really popular right now, and the pink stripes make them a cool departure from the original.
I have a bag that’s a similar shape as this crescent one, and they’re a cool alternative to a bum bag. Lots more space for all your things!
TWO PIECE RUST WIDE-LEG LINEN SET – DIANNE’S STYING
Shop Dianne’s look: Two-piece set, shoes and bag exact, all else similar.
I love wearing “fall colors” in summer. This outfit, in particular, doesn’t actually remind me of fall, it reminds me more of a southwest summer. If I had had the right pieces, or I would have definitely paired this with more turquoise (but that’s what our “Alternate Look” is for!)
I wasn’t sure about the cropped wide leg at first, but wanted to give it a chance. And I love it. Because of them being cropped, I wanted to keep my legs elongated, which is why I went with the clear sandals. I think anything else darker and chunky would have changed the look. (My sandals are new from Target – a little bit of a stretch for me, but I love them!)
I added the striped straw bag to match the look of the linen and keep the outfit looking summery. You can wear this outfit pretty much anywhere and all summer long!
Dianne’s Alternate Look:
So, I pretty much gave away that I would be adding more turquoise to this look for a “southwest feel”. I might even try more, but I would want to make sure that it wasn’t overkill. Gold looks great with turquoise, even though you see it mostly paired with silver. I think it’s rich, elegant look.
I still kept the shoes neutral so that they would not cut off the pants and keep the look sleek. And I love this straw bag in this color. I was able to keep the colors to my theme!
TWO-PIECE RUST WIDE LEG SET – JEN’S STYLING
First of all, I love this color! It makes me think of a summer sunset! And it’s a really easy outfit to just throw on, and look put-together. In fact, it would make a really good “momfit”! I look nice, but I didn’t actually try that hard! A nice bag always makes an outfit look put-together too. Birkenstocks are my go-to sandal during the summer. They’re falling apart, but so broken in at this point!
Shop Jen’s Look: Linen set and shoes exact
Jen’s Alternate Look:
There was no way a jean jacket wasn’t making it on this list somewhere! The sandals and crochet bag dress up this outfit a little more than the Birkenstocks. Not going to lie, I kind of want to figure out how to crochet that bag!
I’ve been looking for an ankle bracelet for the summer, and it might be time to take the plunge! Eme and I had matching ankle BFF bracelets for at least a year, and my ankle is feeling naked!
WHITE SWEATER WITH BLACK STITCHING – DIANNE’S STYING
Shop Dianne’s Look: Sweater exact, all else similar
I think that summer sweaters can sometimes be hard to wear. While the style is great, you do have to worry about it being too hot. But this is not that sweater. It is really light and “breezy” with a nice loose fit so that it won’t cling to you on those hotter days.
I love an all white outfit in this summer and what I really like about this sweater is the black stitching. It gives just a nice touch of detail to an all white look. And this sweater can be dressed up or down. I could just as easily wear this with classic denim shorts as much as I could my white denim.
Dianne’s Alternate Look:
As I just mentioned, this sweater can be dressed up or down. Capri pants are making a huge comeback this season so I would pair them with those and add a pop of color with the red shoes and print bag. You could just as easily wear traditional black pants as well. Because the top is a little blousy, I would keep the pants a little more on the slim side to not add more bulk.
WHITE SWEATER WITH BLACK STITCHING – JEN’S STYING
I love this sweater! I’ve worn it out a couple times already since getting it. It’s soft and breathable to wear in the summer. Because of the material, it’s easy to do a front tuck and have it look like you didn’t need to try that hard.
I’m a big fan of pull-on pants too. They’re a great alternative to wearing jean shorts when it’s hot outside!
Shop Jen’s Look: Shirt and shoes exact, all else similar
Jen’s Alternate Look:
Now I’m pairing this sweater with LONG pull-on pants! Ha! But the rest of the accessories – the chunky bracelet, woven bag and stacked heels give this a more dressed up vibe.
Plus, it is still comfortable. I’m all about comfort all year long, but especially in the summer when it’s hot out!
