The Best Mom Jeans. Don’t Be Afraid.

If you remember this Saturday Night Live sketch from 2003, it wasn’t that long ago that mom jeans weren’t cool.

And now they’re back! Mom jeans are high-rise, loose around the thighs and are tapered around the ankle. They’re a little less baggy than boyfriend jeans that have been around for a while.

If your jeans are a little too long, roll them up! Or, you could cut off a couple inches from the bottom for a cool raw-edge look.

I will warn you, the high waist and long zipper are going to make your butt look flatter than it actually is. There’s a lot of pairs out there that just look like a saggy diaper, which is a hard no in my book.

There’s some styles out there that are (in my opinion) overly ripped up. Full leg rips and tears from your ankles to your thighs isn’t my thing. I like a couple strategically placed rips and tears.

Since being in quarantine (both self and directed), a lot of women have started rethinking why they were wearing such tight, uncomfortable clothes all the time. We’ve all adapted to leggings and sweatpants on the daily, and there’s no going back.

So mom jeans, and any other baggy jeans, offer a little more comfort when the last thing I want to do is stuff myself into some uncomfortable jeans.

What to Wear with Mom Jeans

A body suit, tucked in shirt, or half-tucked shirt are perfect for mom jeans. These jeans are going to give you a defined waist, so make sure you show it off! Add a belt if you want even more emphasis on that cute waist of yours!

If you’ve thought about trying out a crop top, they’re great to pair with high-waist jeans since the space between the top of your jeans and the bottom of your top is minimal.

Just putting it out there, I know a crop top sounds scary, but if you want to try one then DO IT. What anyone else thinks about you and what you wear doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy. You can wear anything AT. ANY. AGE.

Wear them with sneakers, cute sandals, chunky ankle boots, or even heels if you’re feeling fancy!

You do YOU.

Here’s the great thing, you don’t have to wear mom jeans if you don’t want to! You can take influences from mom jeans and find the cut and style that flatters you the most! Just try out some straight leg jeans if you’re not quite ready to jump in head first.

Since becoming a mom, I’ve realized that I do have a shape, and that shape is a rectangle. My pre-baby and even pre-quarantine shape was also rectangle, but a smaller rectangle.

I’ve realized that while I like and wear higher-rise mom jeans, a mid-rise style is more flattering for me. High and super-high rise jeans are meant to hit you at your waist, and I don’t have one.

Personally, I’m glad that mid and high-rise jeans are back. I can’t go back to low rise jeans again, I just can’t. We all remember those days, and they weren’t great.

I combed through a lot of different clothing brands and websites to find some awesome and affordable mom and mom-adjacent jeans, so anyone can find something they like!
