We’re heading into fall for “How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 13”. In Volume 12 we focused on transitional looks. For Volume 13, we’re into the heart of fall, but outfits you can wear comfortable before winter. We’re also including alternative looks, to give you more ideas on how these pieces might work with your style.
This is how “How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 13” works: We decide together on the items that we want to style. We do not share how we were going to style each one, so that we can’t influence each other. Sometimes we will style things very similar and sometimes very different. But we hope in all cases we give you some style inspiration, no matter what your age or life stage!

How to Wear it at Any Age Volume 13: Black Block Heel Mules
JEN’S STYLING
I did something a little different for this volume of Wear it at Any Age. I thought rather than create new outfits for these shoes, I would incorporate the shoes into all my outfits!
These shoes really are super versatile, and also really comfortable. The block heel makes these easier to walk around in, and to wear for longer periods of time.
Plus, the black makes these a little dressier, but the brown heels look great with casual outfits too.

I have a love/hate relationship with mules. On the one hand, I love the look, especially this pair with the block heel. But I don’t always know how/when to wear them because of the open back. I think you can wear them longer into the season than I think, but I don’t think I would wear them when the snow starts to fly.
That’s why I went with more of a transitional look – the black straight leg jeans, black/orange print top and orange suede bag.
How to Wear it at Any Age: Rust Orange Suede Jacket

This jacket is sort of the embodiment of fall with the suede and the gorgeous orange color. My go-to outfits are usually jeans, so that was my first choice with this jacket. But I wore a cream polka-dot top, that can basically be considered neutral, but gives the outfit a little more interest.
Where I did add pattern was with my Donald Duck Gucci purse, that I absolutely love. Disney and designer are a win in my book! But you don’t need a designer bag for this outfit, any sort of pattern or even a brown tote bag would look great!
The shoes coordinate with the black polka-dots and also with the casual feel of the overall outfit!
I also love the idea of wearing this jacket with a dress for fall. This one from Old Navy is floral, but the colors give it a fall-feel. Or even a fall-color plaid or flannel dress with hints of red and orange would look so gorgeous!

This rust-orange color is one of my favorites for this time of year. Fall is my favorite time of year, so that adds to my love of fall colors. You can pair this jacket with a variety of colors. I chose to pair my black tee with the black trim but you can easily go with an ivory or even a navy colored shirt.
What I love about the rust shade of this jacket is that you can easily pair it with black without it look too “Halloween-y”. I just found this clutch in a small boutique on my recent trip to Iowa. I already had the jacket, so I knew it was a great accessory for it (and only $27!)
DIANNE’S ALTERNATIVE LOOK:
Jen and I both agree that this jacket would look great with a dress. There are just so many options. This jacket is lightweight enough, by the way, to wear as a blazer, not just as a coat. So, you can definitely build an outfit around it and plan to wear the jacket the entire time.
The outfit I created above can work both ways. You can wear it with the scarf outside and then take the scarf off when you get inside and keep the look!
HOW TO WEAR IT AT ANY AGE: MOCK NECK TOP WITH MESH SLEEVES

If you remember one of our previous “Wear it at Any Age” outfits, you probably know we have an affinity for mesh sleeves. I also love polka-dots (see outfit above!), so this top was a no-brainer!
I wanted to do something a little different, so I paired the top with this pleated leopard print skirt and the same shoes! This is an outfit I would wear when my husband and I go see a musical for our Broadway in Detroit season, or on a date night!
But also think about how smokin’ hot this top would be as an all-black outfit, with black pants and some super sexy heels! They might not be dancing shoes, but they’re definitely meant to show off!

I actually went back and forth between the black jeans and a black pencil skirt. I think the pencil skirt could be a great look for a cocktail (or upcoming holiday party). Jen and I were thinking alike with this shirt but chose to style it differently for our photos.
This top is from Amazon and another great thing about it is that it comes in a dozen other colors, including white. It would just as easily make for a great all-white outfit as much as it does for all black.
I found these pumps online at DSW and thought they were so fun and unique. Sometimes I fall into the trap of “what would I wear those with?” but other times, like this one, I tell myself to buy them and figure it out later. I am so glad I did. I will have lots of outfits to create with these shoes and this top.
Spring Update
Most of the items I am wearing in these pictures are things I’ve owned for a while, but I’ve done my best to find similar items for you to complete the look.
DIANNE’S ALTERNATIVE LOOK:
Since I was already thinking about the pencil skirt with this top, I figured I would create another outfit using it. I added some “bling” with the metallic handbag and earrings but you could just as easily add a pop of color with a red or barbie pink bag too.
How To Wear it at Any Age Volume 13: Puff Elbow Sleeve Sweater

The colors in this sweater make me feel like fall, but could still be worn in other seasons. It’s early fall, so we’re all in a weird limbo where you want to wear sweaters, but it still ends up too hot during the day. So this sweater gives you the best of both worlds with the short sleeves!
I played off the colors of the sweater in both looks – one with black jeans and the other with cream color jeans! Both could be dressed up or down with black or brown accessories, making this sweater super versatile.
Plus, you can pair this sweater with a jean jacket, a teddy bear coat, or any other top layer for those days when it is just a little bit chilly.
The stripes give the outfit a lot of interest, without being over the top.

I actually found this sweater while shopping in store at Target. I just thought the elbow length and puff sleeve were a great combination. But it was the colors that got my attention. The mustard trim is very fall but the blue and pink add a great contrast. This sweater would be perfect to pull back out come Spring too,
I styled this as a “Saturday run around” outfit but it could definitely be dressed up with nicer jeans and some booties – or even knee high boots.
DIANNE’S ALTERNATIVE LOOK:
This is a great weekend look. The mustard pants could be a little bright, but that’s why I am toning it down with the denim jacket and the cognac boots and handbag. Normally I am not a matching bag and shoe person, but in this case, I think it helps the outfit stay a little more muted with the mustard pants. I think it’s a fun look.
